Base44 is an AI-first builder for creating websites, internal tools, portals, and app-like business workflows directly from a written description. Since being acquired by Wix, it also benefits from a much larger company's hosting infrastructure and long-term support behind it.
It's aimed at founders and operators who want more than a landing page but don't want to manage databases, hosting, or deployment by hand — Base44 packages those decisions into a guided build flow.
Our Verdict
Base44's biggest strength is how much infrastructure it hides from the user: backend logic, hosting, and user accounts come bundled into the same prompt-driven process that creates the interface itself.
That makes it an excellent tool for getting from zero to a working v1 without an engineer. Highly custom business logic or unusual integrations will eventually push past what a guided builder can express well — plan to bring in developer support at that point, not before.
Bottom line
Base44 is one of the more complete "describe it and it's built" options for founders who want an app-like product without managing infrastructure themselves.
Pros
- AI-powered backend & hosting included
- Built-in user portals & secure data saving
- Prompt-to-site engine. No coding required
Cons
- Newer ecosystem than long-established traditional builders
- Best suited to AI-forward, guided workflows rather than highly custom logic
- Advanced edge cases may still need manual review before launch

In-depth Review
Prompt-to-app workflow
Describing an app idea in plain language and getting a working, hosted result back is Base44's core loop — it covers common patterns like user accounts, data storage, and simple internal workflows without exposing raw code by default.
Backend and hosting
Unlike tools that only generate a front-end interface, Base44 handles the backend and hosting as part of the same guided process, which is exactly what makes it approachable for non-technical founders.
Ease of use
Because you stay inside Base44's own guided environment rather than touching a terminal, the learning curve is closer to using a well-designed app than learning a development tool.
Where it's less suited
Performance-sensitive apps, highly custom business logic, or unusual third-party integrations will eventually outgrow what a guided builder can express — Base44 is strongest as the tool that gets a product to its first real users, not necessarily where you scale a complex product for years.
Customer Service
Guided Onboarding
The build flow itself walks new users through common app patterns step by step.
Backed by Wix
Infrastructure and long-term support benefit from being part of a much larger, established company.
Community & Docs
Documentation and community resources help users get unstuck without needing a developer.
